Aviation Fuel Price Hike: Aero Contractors shuts down passenger flight operations

One of Nigeria’s oldest airlines, Aero Contractors, has announced it is shutting down operations due to the impact of the challenging operating environment on its daily operations.

Making the announcement in an issued statement yesterday, the airline stated that it will temporarily suspend its scheduled passenger services operations with effect from Wednesday, July 20, as the aviation industry continues to suffer the scorching impact of the skyrocketing price of aviation fuel.

Giving reasons for its planned shutdown, the airline said that most of its aircrafts were currently undergoing maintenance which had made it difficult for it to offer valuable service to its customers.

The airline, however, said this does not in any way affect the maintenance activities of the Approved Maintenance Organisation (AMO), otherwise known as AeroMRO; the Approved Training Organisation (ATO), also known as Aero Training School; the Helicopter and Charter Services operations.

“We are working to bring these aircrafts back to service in the next few weeks, so we can continue to offer our passengers the safe, efficient, and reliable services that Aero Contractors is known for, which is the hallmark of Aero Contractors Company Nig. Ltd.

“Our customer service team will be working to help affected esteemed customers reach their destinations. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused to our esteemed customers and promise to return to service as soon as possible,” the airline added.

Recall that in May, airline operators threatened to shut down operations over the incessant hike in the price of aviation fuel from N160 to N900 per litre.
